- Adrenaline and Thyroxine
- Adrenaline
- Prepares you for 'fight' or 'flight'. It is released by the adrenal glands.
- Released when stressful/scary situations happen, brain sends nervous impulses to adrenal gland which respond by secreting adrenaline.
- Triggers mechanisms that increase supply of oxygen and glucose to brain and muscle cells eg heart rate.
- Thyroxine
- Thyroxine Regulates Metabolism
- Made and released in response to TSH by the thyroid gland from iodine and amino acids.
- Stimulates protein synthesis for growth and development.
- A negative feedback system keeps the amount of thyroxine in the blood at the right level, TSH stops when thyroxine in the blood is higher than normal.
