- Adaptations
- This is a way an animal's body helps it to survive or live in its environment
- It is the result of the genes the organism inherits from its parents
- Examples of adaptations include the shape of a bird's beak, the colour of the fur, the shape of the nose or ears.

- Three Types of Adapation
- Behavioural - Adult Penguins huddle together during winter to avoid heat loss and survive until spring.
- Physiological- Male penguins can go without food for 100 days - this allows them to survive when no food is available.
- Structural - Penguins have a short stiff tail so they can lean backwards on their heels and tail. This reduces heat loss from their feet to the ground.
