- ADAPTATIONS
- An adaptation is a change by which a species becomes better suited to its environment.
- Anatomical adaptations
- This is a change in the physical features of an organism.
- E.g. Sharks, dolphins and penguins have streamlined bodies, making them more efficient at catching food and escaping predators.
- Physiological adaptations.
- These are changes which permit the organism to perform specific functions.
- E.g. the ability to make venom.
- Behavioural adaptations.
- These are changes to a species pattern of action to better suit its environment.
- E.g. A peacock displays its tail as a mating ritual.
