  • Acids and Bases
    • Acid: Releases H+ ions in aqueous solution.
      • Nitric Acid: NH3
      • Sulphuric Acid: H2SO4
      • Phosphoric Acid: H3PO4
      • Ethanoic Acid: CH3COOH
      • Hydrochloric Acid: HCl
    • Bases: H+ acceptor, oxides or metal hydroxides
    • Acid + Base = Salt + Water
      • Salt: Chemical compound formed when the H+ ion from an acid is replaced with a metal ion or NH4
      • Example: H2SO4 (aq) + CaO (aq) = CaSO4 (aq) + H2O
    • Alkali: Soluble base that reacts with water to produce OH- ions in solution
