  • Abortion
    • What is Abortion?
      • Abortion is the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy,  most often performed during the first 24 weeks.
      • What is Pro-Life?
        • This is the belief that life is sacred and starts from the moment of conception, Women should take responsibility for their actions.
      • What is Pro-Choice?
        • People who believe in Pro-Choice think that is is the mother who should decide whether to carry on the pregnancy using her conscience and free-will.
    • Teachings:
      • Christians
        • Pro-Life
          • All Christians share the belief of Sanctity of life. Children are created in the image of God.
            • "You created every part of me, you put me in my mothers womb"
          • Children are a blessing, a precious gift from God. Some may seriously take God's command to have many children.
            • "Go forth and multiply"
          • Roman Catholics and some other Christian denomination believe that life begins at conception. Before birth, god has given every person a purpose in life. Abortion goes against that plan for the individual.
            • "You saw me before i was born" (Psalms)
          • This supports the idea that life begins at conception and Roman Catholics state that the embryo is a potential person and therefor has rights.
            • "It could never become human if it were not already human"
        • Pro-Choice
          • Many Christians believe that life does not begin at conception. God made Adam and then;
            • "Breathed into his nostrils the breath of life" (Genesis)
          • Methodists allow abortion for risk: To the mother's life or health and her existing family, great poverty, severe disability and ****.
            • "It does that baby no good to be born... it never sees the light of day or knows what life is like. but at least it has found rest"
          • Many Methodists think abortion can be the lesser of two evils, such as in the case of **** or the mothers life life. They would apply the Golden Rule.
            • "Love thy neighbour as thyself"
    • The Law on Abortion
      • In the UK abortion is only allowed if two doctors agree that the mother's life or her mental or physical healthi at risk.
      • Abortion is also allowed when the unborn child has a medical problem or birth defect e.g. if the child will be born severely handicapped. It is also allowed for social/ or economic reasons. e.g. if the mother cannot afford to support a child.
    • Sanctity Of  Life
      • What is the sanctity of life?
        • The belief that all life is sacred
          • How does this link to abortion?
            • If someone has an abortion then they are denying the unborn child  the gift of life that God has given them.
    • Teachings;
      • Islam
        • All life is a gift from Allah and children are a gift too. Allah controls when birth takes place and all life is in his hands.
          • "It is Allah who gives you life and gives you death"
        • Once life has been created no-one has the right to take that away
          • "Whoever severs the womb will... I will sever my ties with them"
        • Some Muslims say that aborting due to disability is never allowed as these hardships are all parts of life's test. Allah know best and if someone is born disabled, the reason will be revealed on Judgement day and will be rewarded
          • "Whoever has spared the life of a soul, it is as though they have spared the life of all people. Whoever had killed a soul, it is as though the has murdered all of mankind"
    • Quality of Life
      • What is the Quality of Life?
        • The Quality of life is a measure of fulfillment in someone's life.
      • How does it link to abortion?
        • Should a disabled child be born if they are going to suffer their whole life? The quality of life may not be as good for a handicapped person than a person with no disability
    • Value Of Life
      • What is the Value of Life?
        • The value of the person above Physical Value
        • How does this affect abortion?
          • This affects abortion because the value of life will be affected if the child is handicapped because the mother's life will change completely and does she have the lifestyle to allow that. How much value will that child be to them.
