      • 1. Rufus starting to put down 1088 rebellion

        • To capture Odo who was sheltering in Pevensey Castle
      • 3. Rufus strengthened sea defences on SE coast to deter Robert Curthose fro entering mainland to rescue friend
      • 4. King ordered Odo to escorted to latter's fortress in Rochester so he would get his followers there to surrender
      • 5. On arrival, Odo and King's escort of troops were seized by defenders and confined to castle
      • 6. Earls (Eustace the Young and three sons of Roger of Montgomery) within castle instructed their troops to carry on strengthening defences against possible retaliatory strike from King.
        • Rufus was not amused
