  • Periodic Table
    • Elements are arranged in order of Atomic number
    • Electronic configuration: 1st - 2, 2nd - 8, 3rd - 8, etc.
    • Elements are arranged in groups and periods
      • Elements are arranged in order of Atomic number
    • Metals: on left, middle and bottom of periodic table; conduct electricity; lose electrons to form + ions; oxides are basic
    • non-metals: on right and top of periodic table; don't conduct electricity (except Graphite); gain electrons to form negative ions; oxides are acidic
    • elements in the same group of the periodic tabel have similiar chemical properties because they have the same amount of electrons in their outer shell
    • noble gases don't readily react as they have a full outer shell
