  • 1918 Representation of the People Act
    • Preparations for reform began in 1916
      • People found that soldiers had lost their vote because they had been away from home for more than a year
    • NUWSS put pressure on the government to consider the issue of women
    • A conference on Electoral Reform was set up to produce recommendations
    • In 1917, it was recommended that women should be given the vote
    • Vote - 385 in favour and 55 against
    • HoC passed this act which gave the right to vote to men and women
      • Men over 21
      • Women over 30
