Additionl Science B2 Part 2

?
What is the function of the cell membrane?
A thin layer around the cell. It controls the movement of substances into and out of the cell
1 of 15
Why aren't plant cells as flexible as animal cells?
Cell wall
2 of 15
Ways in which bacterial and fungal cells are similar
contain cell membrane, cytoplasm and a nucleus, ce.. wa...
3 of 15
Ways in which bacterial and fungal cells are different
bacterial cell doesn't have mitochondria and a capsule
4 of 15
Explain how the palisade mesophyll cell is adapted to it's function of photosynthesis
Found in the upper part of the leaf. The extension increases the surface are of the cell, which improves it's ability to absorb minerals and water from the soil.
5 of 15
Why is xylem cell is specialized to carry out it's function
Xzylem cell is found in the root, stem and leaves. The hard cell wellg gives strength which helps support the plant.
6 of 15
What are the many different types of cells in the body?
Red blood cells, Nerve Cell, Sperm cell, muscle cell, ciliated epithelial cell
7 of 15
What is cytoplasm?
A jelly like substance which contains lots of chemicals. Most of the chemical reactions happen here
8 of 15
What is a cell membrane?
A cell membrance is a thin layer around the cell. it controls the movement of substance in and out of the cell
9 of 15
What is Mitochondria?
Small rod shaped structures that release energy from sugar during aerobic respiration
10 of 15
What are ribosomes?
They are small ball shaped structures in the cytoplasm, where proteins are made
11 of 15
What is the cell wall?
It is the layer outside the cell membrance. It is made of cellulose, which is strong and supports the cell
12 of 15
What are cholorplasts?
They are small discs that can be found in cytoplasm. They contains green chlorophyll which is why leaves are green. Cholorphyll also traps light energy for photosynthesis.
13 of 15
What is diffusion?
Cells cary out mant reactions in and around the body. One way in which particles can move into and out of cells is by diffusion
14 of 15
What are three factors that affect the rate of diffusion?
Three factors that affect the rate of diffusion is 1) Distance, 2) Concentration gradient & 3) Surface Area
