What is a stimulus?
It is a detectable change in the internal or external environment of an organism that produces a response in the organism.
1 of 9
What is a receptor?
Receptors detect stimuli then transform the energy of the stimulus into a form of energy that can be processed by the organism and that leads to a response.
2 of 9
Which 3 cells can carry out a response?
Tissues, organs, systems.
3 of 9
What are tissues, organs and systems?
They are effectors.
4 of 9
What is the method of communication between receptors and effectors?
Hormones.
5 of 9
What is the chain in the response to stimuli?
Stimulus --> Receptor --> Co-ordinator --> Effector --> Response.
6 of 9
What is taxes?
A simple response whose direction is determined by the direction of the stimulus. An organism responds directly to environmental changes by either moving towards a favourable stimulus or away from an unfavourable one.
7 of 9
What is kinesis?
When an organism finds a stimulus unpleasant and so it rapidly and randomly changes direction.
8 of 9
What is tropism?
A growth movement of part of a plant in response to a directional stimulus. The plant grows towards the positive stimulus and away from the negative stimulus.
