An OPEN QUESTION is a question which allows an infinite amount of answers whereas a CLOSED QUESTION is a question which gives a concentrated range of answers possible to say. OPEN allows the participant to give own answers, and produces qualitative data. CLOSED means the number of responses are predetermined by the investigator.

SURVEYS

  • involve asking large group of people for information at a very specific time. They are designed to know what people THINK or DO about a topic.
  • it is better to get a large ample, in order to increase the chances of a representative sample, and allow generalisations to occur.
  • this can be done in the form of questionnaires.
