These are my notes on the poem "Blessing", by Imtaiz Dharker. It is in Cluster 1 of the culture poems in the AQA anthology.
The skin cracks like a pod
This line is a simile. It makes you visualise cracked earth, showing it is very hot wherever this poem is set.
The second verse makes you picture the water. It is shown as this magical substance, not just somethin we take for granted.
The words 'kindly god' make water seem like a gift from god, or, as the title suggests, a blessing.
'sudden rush of fortune' shows how lucky…
