Types of Parable and their purpose

Similitudes- an extended comparison which refers to an everyday scene e.g. “The Kingdom of God is like a mustard seed” (MK 4:31). Aims to make a complex idea more accessible.

Narrative parables- do not begin with introduction but jump straight in with something that once happened e.g “Listen, a sower went out to sow his seeds” (MK 4:3). In some ways these narrative parables are…
