-Visiting exhibitions/ retail outlets

Advantages of mass production

-Cheaper because made to fit standard average sizes

-One standard size template is used which spreads cost over whole production run

-No fitting is necessary

Disadvantages of batch production

-Lost time during change in production of textile product

-Equipment has to be reset after each run

-Unsold product = wastage & storage problems

-Staff work repetitive

A bespoke garment is an individually tailored item made to fit exact shape of person’s body

They ensure that the manufacturers are meeting legal requirements when making and packaging a product.

They take the product apart and check any claims made by manufacturers.

Using ICT and CAM, the delivery of materials and components arrive ‘just-in-time’ for production to start – it helps to manage and control stock & storage

Computer-integrated manufacture

Integrates (links) CAD and CAM systems which link design development, production planning and system manufacture

Companies using CIM can design the product in one country and manufacture it overseas where labour costs are lower

Ultrasonic cutter and stacker units

Read the printed label and cut it in the correct place

Advantage: smooth edge produced which reduces irritation for user

-Work alongside programs such as CAM for cutting and joining

-They can repeat processes with great accuracy

-Easily reprogrammed

A tagging system developed to enhance existing bar code identification systems
