NATURAL CONTRACEPTION

 Rhythm Method: Monitor woman’s fertility cycle so she knows when she is most fertile and so does not have sex on those days.

ADVANTAGE:The rhythm method doesn't require a prescription 

DISADVANTAGE: The rhythm method doesn't provide any protection against sexually transmitted infections 

Withdrawal Method: Withdrawal prevents pregnancy by keeping sperm out of the vagina. Pregnancy cannot happen if there is no sperm present

ADVANTAGE:There are no medical or hormonal side effects.

DISADVANTAGE:Is not recommended for teens and sexually inexperienced men because it takes lots of experience before a man can be sure to know when he's going to ejaculate

Artificial Methods

Condoms~The Pill~Vasectomy~IUD~ImplantDiaphragm ~Vaginal Ring~Patch~

 Condoms: Prevents sperm entering vagina.

The Pill: Stops ovulation by tricking body that it is pregnant using hormones.

Vasectomy: Mans vasa deferntia gets snipped.

IUD:Work mainly by affecting the way sperm move so they cant join with the egg.

Implant: Releases the hormone progestin which stops egg leaving ovaries

Diaphragm:Blocks the uterus opening and stops sperm from moving-SPERMICIDE

Vaginal Ring: Makes cervical mucus thicker preventing sperm going through

Patch: Contains estrogen and progestin-Keeps eggs leaving ovaries.

STD's

A pregnant woman with an STD can infect her baby before, during, or after the baby’s birth.

She may also have early labor or early rupture of the membranes surrounding the baby in the uterus.

Pregnant women should ask their doctors about getting tested for STD's, since some doctors do not routinely perform these tests.

Fertilization 

CONCEPTION: Fertilization of the sperm with the egg

1. Sperm enters vagina  and swim through cervix to Fallopian tubes

2.Sperm need to be high up in Fallopian tube. Egg lives up to a day

3.Sperm fight to be first to fertilize the egg

4. Eggs membrane stops other sperm getting in 

5.Sperm nucleus fuses with egg nucleus. EGG+SPERM=ZYGOTE

6.Zygote divides into a ball of cells--A MORULA

7. The ball of cells reaches uterus after 7 days and implants in the lining. IMPLANTATION
