Why did the Provisional Government last for only 8 months?

This is quite useful, I've found most of the notes on this short but important part of the topic are quite confusing. I'm doing OCR though and a couple of other things that I've got down to learn: Members of the soviets, had real power (food supplies) and due to Order No. 1 the prov. gov. would only be obeyed if the soviet agreed. Also, when Kerensky called on the red guards to help him it meant that they were now armed, and would turn on the prov. gov next!
