Transpiration is the evaporation of water from leaves. The water escapes through tiny pores called stomata. These are mainly found on the bottom of the leaf. It is cooler under the leaf and there is less air movement. This means that the plant doesn't lose too much water through its stomata. If the plant is short of water, the stomata will close to reduce water loss.
